Curriculum Tag Rugby

Delivered by experienced and qualified coaches, our Tag Rugby programme introduces pupils to the fundamental rules and techniques of tag rugby, including passing, evasion, spatial awareness, teamwork, and non-contact tackling. Sessions are inclusive and tailored to ensure all abilities can participate, with a focus on skill progression, active learning, and enjoyment.

Each session promotes physical literacy, improving coordination, fitness, and confidence. Through structured games and activities, pupils learn the importance of working as a team, listening to others, and demonstrating respect on and off the field. The emphasis on tagging rather than contact allows for safe, accessible participation, ensuring all pupils — regardless of physical ability or prior experience — can engage positively and develop new skills.

Beyond physical development, the programme supports personal growth and embeds core values. The Bedford Blues Foundation places a strong emphasis on sportsmanship, perseverance, inclusivity, and respect. Pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves, support their peers, and celebrate collective achievements. These values align closely with many schools’ personal, social, health, and citizenship education (PSHCE) aims.

Participation in this tag rugby block also helps pupils develop resilience, leadership, and communication — key life skills that extend beyond the pitch. By the end of the block, pupils will not only have a solid understanding of tag rugby but will have grown in confidence, built stronger peer relationships, and experienced the value of being part of a team. This engaging and values-led approach makes the Bedford Blues Foundation’s tag rugby programme an enriching and memorable experience for Key Stage 2 pupils.
