Hazeldene Primary Tag Rugby
The Challenge:
Hazeldene Primary School were looking to embed their community links across Bedford and use the power of professional sport to inspire their pupils. Through establishing and growing a partnership with the Foundation, pupils have been able to access high quality rugby coaching, promoting physical literacy and core values.
The delivery:
Through delivering tag rugby, Hazeldene Primary School has seen positive impact on pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
Delivered by professional rugby players and coaches from Bedford Blues Foundation, the sessions have inspired children to be more active, confident, and engaged. Through fun, structured activities, pupils not only developed their fitness and coordination but also learned the importance of teamwork, respect, and discipline—core values that extend beyond sport.
The Impact:
Teachers have noticed a marked improvement in behaviour, with children showing greater focus, cooperation, and resilience during lessons. The excitement of working with professional role models encouraged pupils to participate enthusiastically and set new goals for themselves.
As a result, more children are now choosing to be active at break times and after school. The programme has strengthened both physical wellbeing and positive attitudes to learning across the school community.
