Lewis’s Journey through Tackle LIFE Mentoring
Tackle LIFE Mentoring uses the power of sport and rugby’s core values to inspire young people who are disengaged from mainstream education. It offers an opportunity to develop fundamental life skills and support mental and physical wellbeing.
Lewis attended the programme for eight weeks and the school saw a significant difference:
Lewis is a big success of the scheme - his experiences with Tackle LIFE mentoring have helped him develop the confidence and character to make a switch to a specialist school unit that best supports his needs. As a direct impact - Lewis experienced less 'meltdown-esque' behaviours and was able to voice his worries more confidently thus reducing the nature/duration of outbursts previously witnessed before the project. Lewis loved the sessions with the coaches and felt able to express himself more.
We saw a big change in Lewis: 0 suspensions - 100% attendance.
Lewis said:
The best thing about Tackle LIFE, is that I can fully be myself around everyone. The mentors have been very supportive in helping me realise what is needed for me to reach my dream job. With them now coming into school we get more time to see them and help with some of the problems I face at school.
Through a series of workshops, practical activities and one to one support, each young person had the opportunity to develop confidence, resilience and communication skills, as well as support their own physical and mental wellbeing. Inspire is delivered by professional coaches and staff who support the young person through their journey and ensure each participant is able to get the most out of each session
